IPL 2017: Kings XI Punjab Will Continue To Play Aggressive Cricket, Not Worried Of Victory Or Defeat: Virender Sehwag 1

Virender Sehwag, the Mentor and Director of Cricket Operations of Kings XI Punjab has said that the team will play aggressive cricket in the season, without worrying about results,

“We are not worried about victory or defeat. I will allow my players to play aggressive cricket. The players of Kings XI Punjab would play fearlessly like I have played,” Sehwag said.

Appointing Glenn Maxwell as the skipper of the side ahead of Eoin Morgan and Darren Sammy is one of the steps that illustrate the aggressive nature of the mentor and the team as well.

Sehwag also confirmed that Indian pacer Ishant Sharma has been added to the team, in place of injured Murali Vijay, who has been ruled out of the T20 league due to an injury,

“It’s a pleasure to inform that Ishant (Sharma) is now picked up by Kings XI. I have an old rapport with him as we played together in the Indian team.”

Further, Sehwag went on to explain the reason of adding Ishant in the team, in place of a batsman as he said,

“IPL was known as the game of batsmen but half of the matches in IPL were won due to bowlers, who stopped the batsmen from scoring. So, we have picked Ishant Sharma in place of Murali Vijay to sharpen our bowling attack.

“We have good batsmen like Martin Guptill, Glenn Maxwell, Eoin Morgan, Darren Sammy and David Miller. If any two of this batsman perform then we can easily win the match,” he added.

Picking Ishant in place of Vijay can be a good replacement as far as the home conditions of Kings XI Punjab are concerned but its a matter of the fact that the franchise already had a number of pacers in the team.

Kings XI Punjab will open its IPL campaign with the first game against Rising Pune Supergiant on April 10 at Holkar cricket stadium in Indore. Last year, the Punjab-based franchise ended their tourney at the last position in the points table.
