IPL 2017: KXIP Skipper Glenn Maxwell Lauds Team Efforts Post Win Over RCB
The fairytale season for the Kings XI Punjab continued, as the team that suffered four back to back losses after winning its first two games, with a win over Royal Challengers Bangalore, have kept their hopes of qualifying for the next round alive.
The intensity with which they defeated RCB is the biggest motivation, as they were defending a mere total of 139 in an away game but this score was enough for them to register yet another victory.
Batting first, Kings XI Punjab had a poor start, as they lost both the openers on a low score. The trio of Shaun Marsh, Manan Vohra and Wriddhiamn Saha somehow managed to score runs on a difficult pitch and helped the team to continue the business of scoring runs.
Punjab’s innings could have been done and dusted on a score of around 120-125 but Axar Patel smashed a total of 18 runs in the final over, to sail the team to a score of 138, which proved to be a match-winning total in the end.
Sandeep Sharma’s contribution is worth mentioning, as the Man of the Match for the second consecutive game scalped three big fishes in form of Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers to shatter the dreams of RCB by registering a win and in the end, it can be said that KXIP won the game quite comfortably.
Glenn Maxwell praised the team efforts after the win as he said,
We did really well, the history here gave us some confidence. Axar’s score gave a good total to defend. Our bowlers did a good job in patches. Sandeep has been outstanding, to get those three (Gayle, Kohli, AB) players out in a whole season is a great effort, let alone in one game. We’re close and still want to play better, still a lot of things to come. We were a little bit patchy and didn’t assess conditions as well as we should have. We were looking for an 180-plus score and didn’t go as hard in the last 7-8 overs.
Here is what Man of the Match Sandeep Sharma said after the game –
It’s making me feel great, it’s like a dream come true to get those three wickets upfront. I’m very happy. I’ve been talking to my coaches and especially Viru paaji (Sehwag) who says pitch the ball up and swing the ball both ways, that’s your strength. That’s what batsmen find difficult to face. Some movement was there and it wasn’t a typical Bangalore wicket, it wasn’t as flat and I was trying to swing the ball.
