After topping the batting charts in the previous edition, Gayle put up an improved showing in the 2012 season and broke the 700 runs mark for the first time in the history of the IPL, registering a record 733 run in 15 matches at an average of 61.08. He also bettered his previous highest individual score of 107 by plundering an unbeaten 128 off just 62 balls against Delhi Daredevils. Apart from the huge ton, Gayle also hit 7 half centuries, Unfortunately, unlike the previous season, Gayle was unable to win the ‘Player of the Series’ awards as it went to fellow West Indian Sunil Narine.
