IPL 2017: Losing Close Games Is So Disappointing – Suresh Raina

This game moved like a pendulum till the last over before finally, Amit Mishra, struck two back to back to fours of Basil Thampi to steal a win for Gujarat Lions.

Needing nine runs to win off the last over, Thampi cleared the biggest hurdle in Gujarat’s win by dismissing Shreyas Iyer on the second delivery. It was all Gujarat’s game from there but that was the time where experience came into play as Amit Mishra, who has been part of the national squad for 14 years now, anticipated the ploy of Thampi and secured eight runs from only two balls he played to help Delhi win another game over Gujarat Lions.

It was a special effort from Shreyas Iyer that kept Delhi active in the chase as today, he shone for the team with an innings 96 off just 57 deliveries. Till the 14th over of Delhi’s innings, it looked like Gujarat will win the game but from there, Iyer changed his batting gear to put the team right behind the chase and defeat Gujarat in such a close game.

It was a special win for Delhi Daredevils, which came as a big disappointment for Suresh Raina, skipper of Gujarat Lions as he said –

I think we tried everything but unfortunately, we ended up on the losing side. Shreyas Iyer batted really well. After getting so many wickets up front, we did not capitalise and ended up giving so many boundaries. We tried our best. Boys gave whatever they had. We have been losing close games, that is so disappointing. Like you have mentioned a great game of cricket. The wicket was playing well later on. We gave them so many loose balls, after getting wickets, probably that cost us the game.
