IPL 2017 Match 13 – Gujarat Lions Vs Rising Pune Supergiant – Predicted Eleven Of Rising Pune Supergiant

The second match of Friday’s (April 14) doubleheader will see two struggling teams- Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiant – taking on each other in the 13th match of the Indian Premier League at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot.

Suresh Raina’s men have made an indifferent start to the tenth edition. The Gujarat-based outfit, which topped the table in their inaugural season last year, are yet to get off the mark in the ongoing one as they have lost both their opening encounters against Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad, respectively.

But, more than the two defeats, the manner of those defeats will be a worry for the team management. Losing the first two games by 10 wickets and 9 wickets is enough to get an idea of the team’s form.

The batsmen did well in the first game against Kolkata when they scored 183 for four but since then not much has gone right for them. Kolkata chased down the total inside 15 overs without losing a wicket and Gujarat’s poor form continued in the second game too when they managed only 137 against Sunrisers.

The target was never going to pose a challenge for the defending champions’ in-form batters and they chased down the total with utmost ease inside 16 overs.

On the other hand, Rising Pune Supergiant began the season on a good note, winning their opener against Mumbai Indians in a thrilling fashion. But the troubles of the last season are once again showing the signs of crippling back into the team, as they lost their next two games against Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevils, respectively.

The 97-run defeat against Delhi in the last game brutally exposed their weaknesses. After conceding 205 runs in the allotted 20 overs, the Pune batsmen came to a cropper against Delhi’s disciplined bowling and were bowled out for a paltry 108.

Not surprising then that Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions are languishing at the seventh and eighth position in the league table right now.

So before predicting the playing eleven of Pune, we are taking a look at the past meetings of both the teams.

Head-to-head records:

Gujarat Lions have earned the bragging rights of this tie by winning both the matches they have played against Rising Pune Supergiant.

Recent form:

Gujarat Lions: L L

Rising Pune Supergiant: W L L

Talking points:

For Gujarat, their inexperienced bowling lineup will be their biggest concern. Ravindra Jadeja’s imminent arrival will surely bolster the attack but the team management should also look to include a proven pacer in the team.

Talking about Rising Pune Supergiant, their batting department will surely be boosted by the arrival of Steve Smith and Manoj Tiwary but the form of MS Dhoni and the fast-bowlers is a major area of concern.

Predicted XI of Rising Pune Supergiant:

Captain Steve Smith is very much likely to return to the playing eleven after missing the last game due to sickness. Manoj Tiwary, who too missed the last game due to his father’s death, is likely to walk back straight into the playing eleven.

Faf du Plessis is expected to miss out while fast-bowling all-rounder Dan Christian can get the nod in place of out-of-form Ashok Dinda

Steve Smith (c), MS Dhoni (wk), Ajinkya Rahane, Dan Christian, Rajat Bhatia, Mayank Agarwal, Ben Stokes, Imran Tahir, Deepak Chahar, Adam Zampa, Manoj Tiwary
