IPL 2017: Match 29 – Sunrisers Hyderabad v Royal Challengers Bangalore – Match Prediction

RCB’s quest of reviving their dwindling chances of making it to the playoffs will be tested by the buoyant Sunrisers Hyderabad when the two sides meet at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The last time when the two teams met during the inaugural match of the season, it was the defending champion meeting their last year’s title challengers. However, in a matter of few weeks, the equation has changed drastically.

On the one hand, SRH looks like a strong contender for the title win once again; RCB, on the other hand, has been made to taste dirt consistently this season.

A 2016 like comeback was being anticipated from the Virat Kohli-led side but their current form does not suggest anything like of that kind.

Overview:

SRH made a quick recovery after faltering on some occasions initially. While their most recent fixture ended in a loss, they would still be high on confidence, as their batting and bowling unit seem to be supporting each other really well.

SRH would have won the match against RPS at the MCA Stadium, Pune. But, that day simply belonged to MS Dhoni, who blew away the bowling attack to chase down the target of 178 set by SRH batting first. The visitors had a good grip on the match and would have ended up winning had the Dhoni phenomena not occurred.

RCB registered their lowest IPL total against KKR the other night. This embarrassing batting show must have fired up skipper (he was already fuming in the post-match interview) and the will come back harder at the opposition.

However, this factor alone does not give the edge to RCB. SRH’s bowling side is now world renowned for its quality and definitely better than KKR. Therefore, Kohli & Co have a bigger challenge awaiting them on the match day.

View on think tank:

RCB

RCB would be wary of the opposition bowling attack. The instruction will be clear – Play the bowler to their merit and wait for mistakes to happen. Bhuvi, Nehra, Kaul and Rashid Khan can also dismantle them even if the slightest opportunity arises. The bowlers did a fine job and will be expected to do the same.

SRH

The Mohammad Nabi versus Moises Henriques for the all-rounder’s slot will be discussed. Nabi has got the handful of opportunities while Henriques has been in a wonderful form. Will SRH swap Henriques for Nabi in the important upcoming match? This will be the question.

Tracking the strengths:

RCB

Batting remains the strength focussing around the ‘big three’ – Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle – will be the key strength. Kohli especially will be looking forward to the upcoming match after registering his first duck of his 10 seasons long IPL career.

SRH

SRH would love to see their skipper smash a big one against RCB. He is in form and has been doing really well. However, a super knock which would blow away the opposition completely is being expected by the SRH fans.

Moises Henriques will also under the limelight although he is silently contributing to his team. The all-rounder has been effective both with the ball and the bat throughout this season.

Possibilities in the line-up

RCB

The loss was a pure shocker but it doesn’t appear that there will be drastic changes. It was just one of those horrible days where all the experiences, luck and talent goes down the drain, as you watch yourself getting humiliated completely.

SRH

Ashish Nehra may come in place of Mohammad Siraj. The Hyderabad fast bowler has shown a tendency to lose his rhythm completely once the batsmen have a go at him. Having a bowler of this kind against RCB’s lethal batting order would mean 40-50 runs as a gift which Warner clearly would not want to happen.

Head to Head:

Both teams have met once in the ongoing tournament and SRH had beaten its opposition on that occasion.

Prediction:

SRH is aiming for the second spot in the points table with four wins and three losses in seven matches, whereas, RCB has completely lost its plot having lost five out of their seven fixtures. The upcoming game surely will see SRH starting as the favourites but the home advantage and the aggressive nature of the RCB unit might spring some surprise.
