IPL 2017 Match 3 – Gujarat Lions Vs Kolkata Knight Riders – KKR Predicted XI
Gujarat Lions and the Kolkata Knight Riders make for two interesting sides out there, as both the units are among the favourites for the IPL title. Another striking similarity between these teams is that they are being led by individuals way past their prime and without a place in national side. Thus this is one major aspect which is bound to make the Lions and Knight Riders encounter a much-anticipated one.
Lions marked their IPL debut in style in 2016, as they finished 3rd in the competition, with the Suresh Raina-led side performing much better than what was originally expected from them. The Knight Riders, who are being led by Gautam Gambhir ever since the 4th edition, finished a spot below them at the 4th position after they lost the eliminator to eventual champions Sunrisers Hyderabad.
This time around, both the highly talented sides will be eager to commence their respective campaigns with a victory as a victorious side provides a lot of momentum. With Rajkot being the venue, one can expect an absolute run fest in the middle.
Their previous encounters have borne exact similar trends, as in both the games of the 2016 season, Knight Riders batted first and were restricted to well below par totals. And on both the occasions, the Lions had absolutely no hesitation in chasing the score down.
Their previous clash was played at Kanpur on 19th May 2016 and the Lions found an unlikely bowling hero in Dwayne Smith, as the medium pacer bowled a match-winning spell by picking up 4 wickets while just conceding 8 runs in his quota of overs. The Lions cruised their way to the target of 125 with ease and won the game with a little over 6 overs to spare.
Recent form this season:
KKR – Season opener
The KKR management is among the most proactive units in the IPL and that was evident when a complete overhaul was made at the auction table. With the main pitch at Eden Gardens being relayed, the originally spin heavy side was transformed into a den of world class pacers. Three absolute match winners in the form of Trent Boult, Chris Woakes and Nathan Coulter-Nile were recruited. Along with them, with Umesh Yadav being available after the first couple of weeks, the Knight Riders seem to be the side to beat.
Over the last few months, a lot of questions have been raised over the form of Gautam Gambhir. The fiery character has an ideal opportunity in store to leave an impression. With age not on his side, the team isn’t something in abundance for Gambhir.
