IPL 2017 Match 4 – Rising Pune Supergiant Vs Kings XI Punjab – Rising Pune Supergiant Predicted XI

As we have witnessed the thriller on Thursday night between two arch rivals Rising Pune Supergiant and Mumbai Indians, the tenth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), is ready to produce many close ties in the ongoing season.

The fifth match of season-10 will take place between Kings XI and Supergiant, as Punjab has its second home base at Holkar Stadium in Indore, which has traditionally helped the spinners in past.

Both the sides are lined up with some power hitters at the top and handy all-rounder in the middle – to wrestle it out on the 22-yard surface, whereas, costliest buy Ben Stokes (INR 14.5 crore) would like to give his best performance following his all-around show for Supergiant in their previous match.

Coming to the bowling, the fast bowlers from both the teams would find it difficult given the flat surfaces which have been a norm in the lucrative tournament in the recent past.

However, Daniel Christian for Supergiant and Matt Henry for Kings XI Punjab would bolster the respective team’s bowling line-up for playing XI if they get a game straight away.

With a great deal, the spin attack in the form of Imran Tahir and Adam Zampa for the Supergiant side looks a better lot than Kings XI’s stock of spinners, who have local talent at the helm, as the Mohali-based outfit has shown complete faith in left-arm Axar Patel to lead the slow bowlers’ role.

After winning the first game against Mumbai Indians, Supergiant would like to bank on the performances of Ajinkya Rahane and Steven Smith and the side would be looking forward to seeing Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Ben Stokes performing for the team.

Pune had registered five wins in 14 outings in the last year, as they were placed at the seventh position on points table.

On the other side, Kings XI Punjab has a newly appointed captain Glenn Maxwell in place and they would like to shed the tag of ‘wooden spoon’ which they received in the ninth edition of IPL under the tutelage of David Miller and Murali Vijay.

In 2016, Punjab surrendered at the eighth spot to end their dreadful season, as they managed just four wins out of 14 matches.

Recent Form This Season: (Supergiant)

Win against Mumbai Indians on (Thursday) April 06 by seven wickets.

Previous Encounters:

After making their debut in Indian Premier League in the ninth edition, Supergiant has tied one each with Kings XI so far.

On April 17, 2016, under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Supergiant was thrashed by David Miller-led Punjab by six wickets with eight balls to spare at Bindra Stadium in Mohali, in the match number 10 of the ninth edition of IPL.

For Kings XI, both openers Murali Vijay (53 off 49 balls) and Manan Vohra (51 off 33 balls) posted the fifties to lead their side from the front after bundling out Supergiant on 152.

However, in the 52nd game of the tournament Supergiant beat Kings XI Punjab by four wickets when they chased down the target on the final delivery.

On May 21, 2016, in Visakhapatnam, Dhoni led from the front and blasted 64 off 32 balls which included five sixes and four boundaries.

Talking Points:

There are few similarities taking place in both the teams as their respective owners came up with new skippers to regroup as a unit.

It’s more like Australian versus Australian as Glenn Maxwell led Kings XI Punjab would wrestle with Steven Smith-led Rising Pune Supergiant, who is a sort of defensive skipper.

On the other hand, Maxwell would be tested in the fast-paced tournament as he has the first stint as a skipper.

However, the 28-year-old Maxwell is likely to get inputs from Eoin Morgan, who is England’s limited overs skipper followed by David Miller, who led Kings XI in the previous edition of IPL.

The hosts’ bowlers would be eyeing to have its task cut out against Supergiant batsmen, who had chased down the target of 185 on the penultimate delivery of the innings.

Supergiant has a strong batting order at the helm, but their fast bowlers have to give their best against decent Kings XI batting line-up – to build on the initial stage of the tournament.

Predicted XI of Rising Pune Supergiant:

Mayank Agarwal, Ajinkya Rahane, Steven Smith (Captain), Ben Stokes, MS Dhoni (wicketkeeper), Manjor Tiwary, Rajat Bhatia, Imran Tahir, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar and Adam Zampa.
