IPL 2017, Match 40: Delhi Daredevils v Sunrisers Hyderabad – Predicted XI Of The Sunrisers Hyderabad

An opportunity to make it three wins in three matches awaits the in-form Sunrisers Hyderabad when they take on the bottom ranked team in the points table – Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi. As the league stages approach its conclusion, the prime focus has turned on the points table. They did an excellent job by beating one of the main rival Kolkata Knight Riders in their previous encounter. The win not only gained them another crucial two points but also narrowed the gap with Kolkata Knight Riders.

SRH is currently sitting at the 3rd position with 13 points with the help of 6 wins 10 games whereas KKR, due to the recent loss has got stuck with 14 points at the second position. This clearly means that another overwhelming performance will take SRH to the second spot in the points tally, thus making it easier for the defending champions to secure a spot directly in the Qualifiers.

The opposition clearly has no advantage. The quality of the side cannot be overlooked but they have malfunctioned as a unit. SRH, on the other hand, have achieved their success, purely on the basis of teamwork (apart from magical knock from David Warner). This makes the visitors favourites in the upcoming match.

Previous encounter:

SRH last played DD in their home turf and made the visitors taste dirt by securing a one side win. The match was dominated by the hosts’ batsmen. The charge was led by New Zealand’s skipper Kane Williamson who hit a spectacular 89 off just 51 deliveries after coming to bat at No. 3.

Opener Shikhar Dhawan also played a similar knock making 70 runs off balls. The duo combined together to add 136 for the second wicket and paved the way for SRH to set a healthy 191 for 4 in their quota of 20 overs.

Daredevils, in response, weren’t able to match the superiority of their opposition and never got on track in the chase. Only Shreyas Iyer, who hit 50 off 31 deliveries and Sanju Samson, who contributed 42 from 33 deliveries, managed to show some resilience.

But, their effort never was going to be enough as the support from the other batsmen was missing. Eventually, SRH restricted the batting side at 176/5, 15 runs short of the target.

Recent Form

SRH: W, W, L, W, W

DD: L, L, L, L, W

Talking Points

The top three of the batting order – David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan, and Kane Williamson – will again look forward to blowing the opposition away. The trio has been important to the team’s success in recent games, especially the skipper Warner.

The Australian batting star is fresh from scoring a record-breaking century and leading his side to a wonderful victory over KKR. Thanks to his batting form, SRH have continued to a strong contender this season.

Dhawan and Williamson have also contributed pretty well and will be under the spotlight against DD. The middle order featuring Yuvraj Singh and Moises Henriques have also stepped up to the challenge.

Predicted XI:

Warner may go with the same team for the upcoming game. Mohammad Siraj and Bipul Sharma were the only two changes made in the playing XI. They swapped places with Ashish Nehra and Deepak Hooda. Resting Nehra for another game seems like a good option as the experienced fast bowler can be a huge advantage in a final couple of matches of the league stages and the knockouts.

Siraj, who has impressed with his pace and bounce, gained some more experience will also help the team’s cause and the current scenario presents a great option for Warner to do so. Deepak Hooda may get a lucky break only if Warner chooses some extra batting strength. The out of form all-rounder has done very little to save his place from getting grabbed by left-arm spinner Bipul Sharma.

Here is the playing XI:

David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan, Kane Williamson, Yuvraj Singh, Moises Henriques, Naman Ojha, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan, Siddharth Kaul, Mohammad Siraj.
