IPL 2017 – Match 40 – Delhi Daredevils Vs Sunrisers Hyderabad – DD Predicted XI

Things don’t look any worse for the Delhi Daredevils, after the team was massacred, humiliated and humbled by the hands of the Kings XI Punjab in Mohali on Sunday afternoon.

The constant chopping and changing done to the playing XI and using batsmen inappropriately by the management has cost the team big time so far and will inflict similar consequences if the lessons aren’t learned quickly.

To stand a chance of making it to the playoffs now, the Daredevils need to win all of their remaining games. Even another blip in the form of a loss and their campaign could be completely over.

To add to the side’s never ending the misery the Daredevils haven’t made it to the playoffs since 2012, a time when Virender Sehwag was still decimating the bowlers.

Against Sunrisers Hyderabad, a massive challenge awaits them, as, after that blistering ton from David Warner, the team looks even more magnanimous. The bowling has still done well for the Daredevils, but their batting has been a massive let down. It is indeed time for the batsmen to step up.

The two teams last met on the 19th of April in Hyderabad, where fans witnessed a masterclass from Kane Williamson, playing his first game of the season.

Batting first, the hosts amassed a healthy 191 on the board, and that was mainly due to Williamson’s mesmerising knock of 89 off just 51 deliveries. Opener Shikhar Dhawan contributed with solid innings of 70 as well.

The chase from the Daredevils was never on track after they lost wickets frequently. Barring the exception of Shreyas Iyer, none of the other batsmen stood up to the task and they fell short by 15 runs eventually.

Recent form this season:

DD: L, L, L, L, W

SRH: W, W, L, W, W

Talking Points:

Skipper Zaheer Khan should be fit for the game after missing out against the Kings XI in Mohali. In case the veteran pacer doesn’t make it in time for the game, Mohammad Shami will be persisted with as the new ball pacer. Otherwise, Khan should ideally replace him for the game.

The Indian batting inventory has terribly underperformed throughout this season with Karun Nair being the biggest disappointment. The fact that Rishab Pant and Shreyas Iyer have batted so low hasn’t helped anyone either. It’s high time that the management uses them more efficiently before its too late.

DD Predicted XI:

  1. S. Samson 2. S. Billings 3. S. Iyer 4. R. Pant (wk) 5. K. Nair 6. C. Anderson 7. C. Morris 8. K. Rabada 9. A. Mishra 10. S. Nadeem 11. Z. Khan (c)
