IPL 2017 – Match 44 – Sunrisers Hyderabad Vs Rising Pune Supergiant – Match Prediction

The last few days have witnessed the IPL getting suddenly very exciting, as a few results have tilted things that way.

Hyderbad with Rising Pune Supergiant continuing its mighty impressive run and beating the Kolkata Knight Riders in their own backyard, they are just a few steps away from securing that crucial playoffs berth. To add to that, the loss faced by the Sunrisers Hyderabad against the Delhi Daredevils has further intensified the campaign with four sides battling for just two spots on offer.

Both these sides have played an impressive brand of cricket and have overcome their flaws with every passing game. The fulcrum of these teams has been their skippers, both Australians, who have led from the front with some fine performances. The winner in Hyderabad of this encounter will almost be certain of qualifying for the playoffs.

Overview:

SRH: Despite getting to a healthy total against the Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla, the Sunrisers bowlers couldn’t defend the target. This meant that an absolute masterclass from Yuvraj Singh was rendered futile where he tore into South African import Kagiso Rabada. The loss has been a wake-up call for the SuHyderabad.

Playing the inexperienced Mohammad Siraj and benching the veteran Ashish Nehra has been a poor move indeed.

The Sunrisers need to rope in Nehra for this crucial clash, as he brings a lot of experience to the fore. Along with that, Nehra also ably shares the responsibility off Bhuvneshwar Kumar with the new ball. Barinder Sran is another exciting prospect who can be given a run and it was the left arm pacer, who turned around the IPL 2016 final on its head by dismissing Virat Kohli in the finals.

RPS: While their counterparts come on the back of a loss, the Supergiant have enjoyed successive victories in their previous two clashes. The chase against Gujarat Lions was simply out of this world, as Ben Stokes resurrected the game out of nowhere.

Then at the Eden Gardens, it was the young Rahul Tripathy making a mockery out of the Kolkata bowlers to decimate the hosts. The youngster was really unfortunate to miss out on his century, however.

One can pity young Kiwi recruit Lockie Ferguson for not getting a game after his Man of the Match performance against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at home.

The management has displayed more faith in the experience and al- round skills of Dan Christian, who hasn’t disappointed with his show either.

Strengths:

SRH: Contrary to the popular belief, batting is slowly emerging as the strength of this side in the recent games gone by. David Warner stamped his authority on 30th April when he massacred the Knight Riders with his ton. To add to that, the return to form of Shikhar Dhawan and Yuvraj Singh has been another benefit for them.

Bowling wise, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan remain the ever reliable package who can get wickets anytime.

RPS: As a complete package, Ben Stokes has proved to be a complete value for money. He can bowl some priceless overs at the death and he can also steady the ship with the bat as seen before.

Stokes has alone revolutionised this side to the very core. Batting wise, Rahul Tripathy has been more than just a consistent run-maker, as he has been quite brutal at the top so far.

Team Changes:

SRH: The Sunrisers could possibly make a few changes. One of them will surely be to bring back Ashish Nehra at the expense of Siraj. Another would be roping in Bipul Sharma for the underperforming Deepak Hooda. Replacing Moises Henriques with Ben Cutting wouldn’t be a bad option either.

RPS: For a side that is out on a winning streak like the Supergiant, ideally there shouldn’t be the need to make any changes to the side.

Head to Head:

Earlier this season, the two sides played a thrilling contest at Pune, where the hosts won in dramatic style, as MS Dhoni finished off the game with a magnificent knock and was the Man of the Match.

Prediction:

While Pune might seem to be in a better shape, beating Hyderabad in their own backyard is no easy task. One has to back the hosts to get back to winning ways in this game.
