IPL 2017 : Match 49 – Kolkata Knight Riders vs Kings XI Punjab – Match Prediction
Every game in IPL now has got crucial with the teams making up to the playoffs. While after last night loss against the Gujarat Lions, Punjab desperately needs a point, whereas, the Knights are almost on to the playoffs. Kolkata needs to win the remaining matches to fix the top two position.
Kolkata reached the 159-run target in 15.1 overs to emerge out victorious in Sunday’s game against RCB and Punjab suffered yet another blow later that night. Gujarat Lions made the road ahead a tricky one for Kings XI by defeating them by six wickets.
Hashim Amla’s second century of the season went in vain, as Gujarat chased down 190 in the final over and pushed KXIP to a point from where they need to win all of their remaining matches to stay alive in the playoff race.
TRACKING THE STRENGTH:
If Amla did most of the scoring inside Powerplay, Marsh took over that role once it concluded, and the two took KXIP to 81/1 in 10 overs to stage a wonderful recovery when things had looked sluggish at a point. Amla went to score 50 off 35 balls, and along with Marsh, set the perfect platform for his side with a 125-run partnership.
Dhawal Kulkarni, who had bowled excellently well, was finally rewarded with the wicket of Marsh, holing out to Aaron Finch at long-on. In the absence of Brendon McCullum, Ishan Kishan proved a perfect replacement at the opener’s slot. And at the other end, Dwayne Smith’s exceptional hitting helped Lions’ scoring rate from the onset.
He and Kishan provided the Lions with a rollicking start, bringing up the fifty in just 5.1 overs.
For KKR, everything is going according to the plans. Starting from Lynn coming back from injury and hitting yet again and Narine again opening and scoring the fastest 50 in 15 balls in IPL history ever.
Even Uthappa eyes a comeback in the next match. Kolkata has always been a consistent performer of the game. KKR are currently standing at the second spot in the IPL table, having notched up eight wins from 12 games they have played so far.
Every match counts from here, so both teams would fight for those two crucial points. Looking at the present form of KKR, they have emerged as one of the best and lately Punjab too has woke up to make their place count in playoffs.
Head to Head, KXIP and KKR have played 19 matches so far. KKR has won 13 matches while KXIP has won six matches. Head to head record is pretty much in favour of KKR. Last time they locked horns with KKR winning the game by eight wickets.
Gautam Gambhir scored his 33rd half-century until Narine assisted him well with an 18-ball-37. Earlier, Umesh Yadav took four wickets, as Kings XI Punjab reached 170/9 in 20 overs against Kolkata Knight Riders. Chris Woakes took two while Piyush Chawla, Sunil Narine and Colin De Grandhomme picked up one wicket each. Manan Vohra was the top scorer for KXIP with 29 runs.
An 180 plus run would be enough for chasing and likely Kolkata seems to be favourites.
