IPL 2017 Match 9: Rising Pune Supergiants vs Delhi Daredevils:RPS Predicted XI

IPL 2017 Match 9: Rising Pune Supergiants vs Delhi Daredevils:RPS Predicted XI

IPL has already turned out to be grander and action-filled tournament as the eight teams battle for one of the game’s most coveted silverware.

RPS has tasted both loss and win in the first two matches that they have played.

In the first match, their skipper Smith emerged out to be the hero to kickstart the season with a win against the Mumbai Indians whereas in the last game against Kings XI Punjab, their winning spree was put to a halt due to Maxwell’s starlet performance and thus RPS lost to Punjab by 6 wickets.

On other hand, Delhi Daredevils is one of the three oldest teams that are yet to win the IPL title, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab being the other two.

Over the past nine editions, DD has lost the most number of games in the cash-rich league (74). With no JP Duminy or Quinton de Kock, Delhi’s batting indeed looks shaky.

Skipper Zaheer Khan, along with mentor Rahul Dravid, will have to infuse some belief in this edition of the IPL. This season too started off with a glee for the Delhi camp. Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Delhi Daredevils by 15 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter. Rishabh Pant fought valiantly but the visitors kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Pune had a topsy-turvy start to the season. But the two stars of Pune’s opening match win against Mumbai Indians, Rahane and captain Steve Smith were soon back in the dugout within the nine overs.
Ben Stokes seemed to be Pune’s only hope after the dismissal of Rahane, Smith and MS Dhoni cheaply. He kept his side in the contest, punishing poor deliveries. But everything came to a halt when, are with four sixes and two fours, Maxwell led from the front, scoring an unbeaten 44 of 20 balls and was well supported by Miller (30*).

PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS:

RPS vs DD Head-to-Head Record is not that much old. Head to head, DD and RPS played 2 matches only. DD won 1 match and RPS also won 1 match. Rising Pune Supergiants is only one season old. They have played only 2, 2 matches against other teams. DD is the one of the team who played all the seasons of the IPL. But DD unable to won any single title of the IPL.

RECENT FROM THIS SEASON:

Glenn Maxwell and David Miller lived up to their respective reputations to steer Kings XI Punjab to a comfortable six-wicket win against Rising Pune Supergiants in their Indian Premier League 2017 opener in Indore. With four sixes and two fours, Maxwell led from the front, scoring an unbeaten 44 of 20 balls and was well supported by Miller (30*). In the previous match Pune did heroics, thanks to the skipper, Steve Smith’s blistering innings. In the Delhi camp, the story remains intact as in all seasons, a bad start for the team, as they lost to Bangalore on their saeson opener by 15 runs !

TALKING POINTS:

With plenty of big names, especially in the batting department, Pune will count on them to deliver and take them into the playoffs. If there was one major drawback from Pune’s performances in IPL 2016 it was their middle-order, especially the Indian batsmen. None of them performed to their potential and that ended up costing them as it left the rest of the batsmen that followed with too much to do.Having let go of a few players, Pune brought in Mayank Agarwal and Manoj Tiwary. Rahane should perform his best to give pune a good start.

Dhoni looks a bit out of his real show, so he needs to soon get there and do the job for his franchise.

Ben Stokes has shown that he can nail his yorkers, slower balls and trouble the batsman with his ability to hit the deck and put the batsmen on the back foot, he will need to be on his game for the entire group stage if Smith’s side are to make it to the playoffs.

Marsh, who was bought by Supergiant at the 2016 auction, had to leave the tournament midway last year due to a side strain.

His absence may necessarily not be a big blow for the franchise, who have Ben Stokes, the season’s costliest signing at INR 14.5 crore.

PREDICTED XI:

Mayank Agarwal, Ajinkya Rahane, Steven Smith (Captain), Ben Stokes, MS Dhoni (wicketkeeper), Manjor Tiwary, Rajat Bhatia, Imran Tahir, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar and Adam Zampa.
