IPL 2017: Match Stats - Rising Pune Supergiant Vs Delhi Daredevils 1

Delhi Daredevils opened their account in the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League with a thumping 97-run win over Rising Pune Supergiant on Tuesday (April 12). After being asked to bat first, Zaheer Khan’s men posted a mammoth total of 205 for 4 courtesy of a brilliant century from Sanju Samson and a quickfire knock from Chris Morris. In reply, Pune, who were without their unwell skipper Steve Smith, could manage only 108 runs. This was their second consecutive defeat in the tournament after they opened their campaign with an impressive win against Mumbai Indians.

Here are the statistical highlights from the match:

  • Sanju Samson has now become the sixth batsman to score an IPL century for Delhi Daredevils.  Kings XI Punjab had 7 players scoring centuries in the tournament for them, the most number of players for any team.
  • An IPL century at an age of 22 years and 151 days has also made Samson the 2nd youngest player to score a century in the IPL . Manish Pandey holds the record of being the youngest IPL centurion when he scored a century in the second season of the IPL at an age of 19 years and 253 days.
  • 62 balls taken by Samson for reaching the three-digit mark is the 6th slowest century in IPL. The slowest century in IPL was scored by Manish Pandey when he took 67 balls to score the century in 2009.
  • All 10 Rising Pune Supergiant batsmen getting out ‘caught’ was the first instance in IPL where all 10 wickets were caught out in an innings. This is the 10th such instance in the shortest format of the game.
  • 62 runs scored by Delhi Daredevils in the powerplay overs are the most for them since they blasted 64 runs against the now-terminated Deccan Chargers in 2012.
  • 82 runs scored by Delhi Daredevils in the last 5 overs of this game are the most for them in any IPL game from 16-20 overs. They never managed to score more than 70 runs in the last 5 overs of an IPL game previously.
  • Delhi Daredevils’ 97-run win is the joint 8th biggest win in terms of runs in IPL and it is also their biggest win in the history of the tournament. Their  previous biggest win in terms of runs came in 2010 when they beat the now-suspended Rajasthan Royals by 67 runs.
  • Delhi Daredevils’ total of 205/4 is their 3rd highest total in IPL so far. Their highest is 231/4 vs Kings XI Punjab in 2011.
  • Delhi Daredevils’ last 200-plus total had come during the 2012 season. This was only their 3rd total of 200-plus in the history of the IPL.
  • Chris Morris’ strike-rate of 422.22 is the 3rd highest strike-rate in a Twenty20 innings for any player. (Minimum 30 runs).  Highest is 442.85 by Mark Ealham who scored an unbeaten 31 in 7 balls.
  •  Chris Morris’ 422.22 strike-rate is the first instance of a player having 400+ strike-rate is an innings in IPL. (Minimum 30 runs). Previous best: 387.5 by AB de Villiers during his 31 off 8 balls in 2013 vs Pune Warriors India.
