IPL 2017: Mumbai Indians Need To Be Consistent To Think Of Play-Off Stage, Says Mitchell McClenaghan
As Mumbai Indian are going through a merry run with six wins on trot, their promising fast bowler from New Zealand Mitchell McClenaghan stated the team has to work hard and remain consistent in a bid to reach the play-off stage of the tenth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), which has already witnessed close encounters, remarkable performances from both with bat and a ball.
“Fantastic win tonight [Saturday] from a very determined unit. Everyone put their body on the line for each other and that’s what team is all about #MI,” McClenaghan tweeted on his official Twitter account.
On Saturday (April 23), the left-arm fast bowler played a pivotal role in a game against Delhi Daredevils when he claimed three wickets to help his side to win the low-scoring match by 14 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
“It’s a long way to go (to reach play-offs). We have got a very liberal management and a very liberal team. So, fresh start every time, planning process is injected at the same time,” McClenaghan was quoted as saying by PTI.
After playing seven games, Mumbai is topping the points table with 12 points following the impressive performances from the youngsters following and vital contributions from the batters and bowlers to play as the unit.
“It’s important that we do not get too high or two low, just stay consistent because there is ups and downs in T20 cricket,” McClenaghan remarked.
The 30-year-old McClenghan stated they’re striking with the plan and are looking forward to continuing their winning streak.
“Obviously, you have to take wickets upfront. The message was very clear, just do our things,” McClenaghan added.
It’s pertinent that Mumbai Indians has a bowling coach in the form of Shane Bond from New Zealand alongside head coach Mahela Jayawardene, who are playing a significant role while giving their best to the players at the nets.
McClenaghan revealed Mumbai think tank is working on the process as a combined unit and the results are providing the best, as an overall outcome as bowlers have coped well to give their hundred percent in pressure situations.
Hasting-born McClenaghan has picked 12 wickets so far in seven games for IPL franchise Mumbai Indians this season.
