In the latest blow to Delhi Daredevils, their key players Kagiso Rabada, Chris Morris and Angelo Mathews have left the ongoing season of Indian Premier League to join their respective national squads. While both Rabada and Morris join their squad in South Africa, Mathews have joined his team in Sri Lanka.
Talking of African teammates first, both the men will join their team ahead of three match ODI series against England before Champions Trophy, which will an opportunity for the team to assimilate to the conditions in England. However, Chris Morris had nursed an injury during IPL and nothing is clear about his injury
Angelo Mathews, the third Daredevils player to leave IPL, has flown back to Sri Lanka to join the week-long preparatory camp that kicked off on May 8 in Pallekelle. The 15-member of the team will prepare for the upcoming tournament, that kicks off on June 1 in England.
It is a big blow for Delhi as both Rabada and Morris had performed well for the team whereas though Mathews though was not given enough chances, but was the main backup player for the team soon as Corey Anderson will also leave the camp due to his international commitments. Now all the eyes will be on Karlos Braithwaite, who might be given the opportunity to perform the role of an all-rounder.
Delhi Daredevils will take on Gujarat Lions in their next game on May 10 in Kanpur, which will also be the first game for Gujarat at their second home ground.
Both the teams are already out of the race to the next round and it will be a contest between them to edge out the other side so as to keep itself ahead of the other.
