Afghanistan leg spinning sensation Rashid Khan continued with his exploits in his debut IPL season after he fooled Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma to send him back to the pavilion. The leg-spinner has been really difficult to pick and has been hitting the headline right from day one of the IPL.
Sharma, who came into bat after the departure of opener Jos Buttler, was stunned by a googly and looked completely foxed the moment umpire raised his fingers. This wicket also took Rashid Khan back to the top of the highest wicket taker list, making him the purple cap holder. The 118-year-old currently has 6 wickets in three matches.
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians are currently locked in an even contest but the game seems to be sliding into the SRH’s favour after the introduction of Rashid. Sharma entered scene after Buttler was sent packing by Ashish Nehra in the 4th over.
Warner took advantage of the situation and quickly brought in the teenager into the attack in an attempt to build pressure on the new batsmen, Rohit Sharma. The leggie started off brilliantly as anticipated.
The settled Parthiv Patel played out the first four deliveries before picking a single and exchanging the strike with Rohit Sharma. The Mumbai skipper, who took the guard with 3 runs from 2 balls, saw himself getting trapped by a googly. Rashid has shown a knack for starting straight away with a wrong one and the smart move has worked for him on most occasion including today.
The ball pitched on the good length just a few centimetres away from the off stump and nipped in sharply to hit Sharma on the pads. The delivery initially appeared to be a slider but slow-motion later showed that it was a back of the hand delivery. The umpire had no issues judging the dismissal as it looked completely plumb.
The timing of the wicket made it more special as MI lost two of its best men in a space of just one over. Chasing the 159 runs target set by SRH batting first, MI got off to a healthy start with Patel and Buttler adding 28 in 3 overs. However, the sudden two blows left them reeling at 41/2 after five overs. Thanks to Patel’s counter attacking approach, the pressure was off but there was a sense of worry in the Mumbai fans after Rashid snapped the all-important wicket.
