During the tenth edition of lucrative cash-rich Indian Premier League match cricketer-turned-commentator Ravi Shastri on April 12 (Wednesday) missed to announce Man of the Match award for Mumbai Indians’ wily customer Jasprit Bumrah, who picked three wickets when hosts won the match by four wickets before realizing he had missed something in the line of duty.
England’s prolific batsman, who has been enjoying his stint in the commentary box for IPL, takes a dig at former Indian cricketer Shastri after he forgets to announce the much-awaited award which further left former Indian cricketer Murali Karthik, who is the part of an expert panel in the studio alongside presenter Gaurav Kapur in splits.
Instead of announcing the hero of the match, Shastri straightaway thanked the spectators for turning to the stadium after a discussion with Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma.
However, Shastri was quick in admitting his gaffe which further saw Bumrah having a smile as the live coverage was again taken to the ground from the studio, which saw trio in the form of Kapur, Karthik and Pietersen bursting into laughter.
Shouting at top of his voice, Shastri has been all over the commentary box in the recent past; be it describing Yuvraj Singh’s six sixes off Stuart Broad during the 2007 Twenty20 World Cup or the glorious moment when Mahendra Singh Dhoni smoked six at Wankhade Stadium to win 2011 World Cup.
Shastri is also seen as one of the renowned commentators to share his opinions regarding the gentleman’s game, but it wasn’t his night as he made a mess to get trolled by social media users after a ‘brain fade’ which also saw Pietersen having a whack at it.
Earlier, the right-handed batsman Pietersen pulled out of the IPL auction.
