The number of injured players in the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is going up day by day. The team and the coaches are well versed by this fact that its a great loss for the team. One of the key players who will miss the first couple of weeks of IPL is Ravindra Jadeja, who has the ability to turn the game on his own by contributing in both the departments of the game. Jadeja missing even a game for the team is a big loss, a fact which Gujarat Lions coach Brad Hodge revealed,
“Ravindra was an unbelievable player in the recently concluded Test series (against Australia) and I understand that he needs some time to get cent per cent fit.”
Further, Hodge termed Jadeja as a three-dimesnsional player, who can’t be replaced,
“No, he can’t be replaced..he is a three-dimensional player…he bats, bowls and fields like a jet. So its very hard to replace him in any cricketing side.”
Not just Jadeja, the team will also miss out on the services of another all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who will also miss first two weeks of IPL. Bravo injured himself during the Big bash League 2016/17 and went on to miss Pakistan Super League as well. Hodge was positive that Bravo will soon join the team and will be the key player on his return,
“Bravo, hopefully, he will be fit around 20th of April. He will be the key player for some games and when he comes he brings nice energy and when he is a good man around the group, he’s always happy, dancing and having fun, so we are looking forward to him to join us,” Hodge said.
Gujarat Lions will open its IPL campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders, a team which they defeated last year on both the occasions they met each other. Surely, the KKR side will look to bounce back this year to take a revenge from Gujarat-based franchise, Hodge opened,
“I am sure KKR is looking to bounce back. We played very well both the times last year but KKR is a very dangerous side having players like Gautam Gambhir, Robin Uthappa, Manish Pandey.. all are very good players. They have got some skills in bowling too having players like Sunil Narine and Umesh Yadav. Yadav is not going to be part of this game, but the match is going to be a good contest, as KKR is a skilful side and you have to play good cricket to beat them.”
