One has to address the elephant in the room and agree to the fact that Rishab Pant is indeed destined for greatness in the near future. The batting display put forth by Pant was nothing short of a sheer spectacle as his knock of 97 off just 43 deliveries mentally shattered the Gujarat bowlers. Needing 209 to win the game, Delhi strolled to the target as Sanju Samson and Rishab Pant annihilated the Gujarat bowlers.
The way Pant went about his task, he seemed to be an apt cocktail of the legendary pair of Adam Gilchrist and Sanath Jayasuriya. While he had the brutality of Gilchrist, his flick and cuts were reminiscent of the Matara Mauler.
Post Delhi’s comprehensive win, skipper Karun Nair lauded Pant for his outstanding knock.
“Amazing performance. One of the best partnerships I have ever seen,” said Nair. “Can’t have a plan when you are chasing so much. So glad we could pull this off. We spoke about playing with freedom couple of matches ago, and so happy we are going out there and executing it.”
Pant was the Man of the Match for such an epic knock and the youngster was beaming with elation.
“I and Sanju always thought, if we get a bad ball, we will make full use of that,” said Pant. “If we get three regularly, we will go for the sixes. Most of the times I like to play aggressive, but this was that kind of a wicket where we could play our shots and that’s what we did today.”
