Rohit Sharma

The Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has been docked 50 % of his match fees for involving in an on-field argument with an umpire. The incident happened in the last over of the game when Mumbai Indians needed 17 runs to win.

The home side lost the wicket of Hardik Pandya on the first delivery of the over from Jaydev Unadkat and Rohit Sharma hit the next ball for a six, bringing down the difference to 11 runs. The next ball which Unadkat bowled was way outside of stump, which Rohit Sharma followed.

Umpire judged the delivery as a fair one whereas Rohit thought that it was a wide, He moved to the other end to have a talk with the umpire S Ravi and it looked like the conversation has turned into heated exchange. The leg umpire Nand Kishore ran towards the other end to sort out the issue.

On the very next ball, Rohit was dismissed as he lifted one in the air but the top edge fell in the hands of the bowler himself.

With 111 runs to win of next two, McClengahn was run out on next delivery and this ensured win for RPS as Mumbi Indians needed 10 runs to win.

Harbhajan Singh rubbed salt on Mumbai Indians wound by hitting six of the last delivery as it was of no use and Mumbai Indians lost the game by a margin of just three runs. The not-wide delivery did make a difference in the end as the result could have been different if it was signalled wide.

The match official took note of Rohit’s actions and he was fine 50 % of his match fees. This was second when Rohit was called for breach of the code of conduct as earlier in the tournament as well, he expressed his displeasure towards an umpiring decision, thus inviting fine for himself.

“Mr Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.1.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials. This is Mr Sharma’s second Level 1 offence this season. For Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” an official statement from IPL read.
