IPL 2017: Rohit Sharma Reprimanded For Showing Dissent
Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has received an official reprimand by match referee Sunil Chaturvedi for showing dissent at an umpiring decision during his team’s four-wicket victory against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday (April 9).
The right-handed batsman had stood his ground after being given out lbw in the tenth over. With Mumbai in a a precarious situation while chasing Kolkata’s 180, Sharma was wrongly given out on 2 as the ball had taken a big inside edge before hitting the pad. And as soon as umpire CK Nandan raised his finger, a furious Sharma was seen gesturing angrily and showing his bat to the umpire as he walked away.
“Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai Indians captain, was reprimanded by the match referee for showing excessive, obvious disappointment with an Umpire’s decision during his team’s contest against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium,” said an official statement.
After the match, Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offence according to the IPL Code of Conduct for players.
Meanwhile, the howler of the decision did not prove costly in the end as Nitish Rana and Hardik Pandya played brilliant innings to guide Mumbai Indians to their first win of the season.
