IPL 2017: Rohit Sharma Vaults Into Record Books, Becomes Fourth Batsman To Cross 4000 Run-Mark In T20 League 1

The Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma became just the fourth batsman to score 4000 runs in the Indian Premier League. The other three batsmen to cross this milestone are Suresh Raina, Gautam Gambhir and Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Rohit achieved this landmark in the contest against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday.

Suresh Raina tops the list with 4408 runs in his account. The captain of Gujarat Lions never missed a game for the now defunct Chennai Super Kings in the first eight editions of the league.

Followed by him in the list is the RCB skipper Virat Kohli. He has scored 4349 runs in 146 matches. Kohli, in 10 years of IPL, has been part of only one franchise i.e. Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Gautam Gambhir is the third on the list with 4021 runs in 142 games. The left-handed opener has been the part of Delhi Daredevils franchise as well.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is the slowest among the three players to achieve this record, as he achieved this milestone in 147 innings, in his 152nd game.

Rohit made his IPL debut for the now-defunct Deccan chargers in the year 2008. He was purchased by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2011 auction. He took over the captaincy of the team in the year 2013 when Ricky Ponting sidelined himself to give chances to the youngsters. Rohit led the side to their maiden title IPL win the same year.

He was retained by the franchise before the 2014 auction along with Harbhajan Singh, Ambati Rayudu, Kieron Pollard and Lasith Malinga. He again led the team to a successful IPL triumph in 2015. Meanwhile, he continued to shine with the bat as well, as he has been one of the highest run scorers for Mumbai Indians from past many years.

Here is the list of top five run-scorers in the history of IPL –
