IPL 2017: Shahbaz Nadeem Praises Delhi Daredevils’ Skipper Zaheer Khan For Boosting Morale
The left-arm orthodox spinner Shahbaz Nadeem has effusively praised Delhi Daredevils skipper Zaheer Khan for uniting players and guiding the youngsters while having a whole lot of international experience on his back to further help international cricketers.
“He [Zaheer Khan] guides us really well and his presence as a mentor, captain and a bowling unit coach makes a lot of difference. He gives us a lot of confidence,” Shahbaz told IPLt20.com.
The 38-year-old fast bowler Zaheer has played a pivotal role for Delhi Daredevils with his dynamic leadership qualities, as he was also praised by teammate Nadeem while stating the bowler as a skipper understands what his bowlers require during the crunch scenario.
“Zaheer helps a lot because he understands what the bowlers need,” Shahbaz said.
While reflecting on their first match at home ground this season, Shahbaz stated Zaheer had a different plan and it was clearly visible with his fielding placement against Kings XI Punjab.
“We had planned different field placements. Zaheer bhai’s field placement is very different,” Shahbaz added.
However, while chasing the target Kings XI were restricted to 137 for nine in 20 overs with the disciplined bowling from the hosts.
“Zaheer told us that we’ve scored a lot (the total of 189), we thought 170 was a winning total but we’ve now got almost 190 so you can bowl the way you want and express yourself,” Shahbaz further added.
The Bokaro-born Nadeem expressed the satisfaction over his performance while stating he is mature enough now and Daredevils bowling coach S Sriram has played an important role to help him during the bowling.
“I share a very good bond with him (Sriram) because we have played together as well. He knows what we want to do and what we are trying to do,” Shahbaz remarked.
After crushing Kings XI Punjab by 51 runs, Shahbaz claimed two wickets in two overs while stating fielding is a thankless job and it plays a significant role in the match.
“Fielding has become a very important aspect especially in T20s. If you can save 7-8 runs on the field, then it helps a lot. In T20s, generally teams lose by that margin,” Nadeem stated.
While talking about his personal milestones, Shahbaz stated he has been enjoying the domestic stint in the Ranji Trophy season and would like to continue where he has left it.
“I’m getting mature now. I started playing when I was 15 so have it was very early. I’m enjoying it now and I hope I can stay consistent,” Shahbaz concluded.
Interestingly, the 27-year-old Shahbaz was the highest wicket-taker in the past two editions of the first-class leg.
