IPL 2017: Shane Watson Blames Himself For Loss Against Kings XI Punjab

RCB skipper Shane Watson blamed himself for the loss against Kings XI Punjab as apart from failing with bat and ball, he also made a poor decision to bat first on a pitch that aided batsmen later in the evening. The captain took the responsibility and blamed himself for an embarrassing beat down.

Kings XI Punjab had a good start in the chase, courtesy of a 62-run partnership between openers Hashim Amla and Manan Vohra. They were not lethargic to go after the bowlers and were right on the money to get the work done as soon as possible.

An LBW decision resulted in Vohra’s dismissal but this had nothing to do with the chase at the end of the day. Kings XI Punjab registered an easy win by a margin of eight wickets with 33 balls to spare.

AB de Villiers played great innings of 89* of 46 deliveries but failed to carry his team to a win, as he did not get the support which he needed from the other end. His knock included a total of nine sixes and team’s run-rate doubled up in the last five overs when he added 44 runs to his account in last twelve deliveries he played.

It was ABD’s blitz, riding on which RCB was able to post such a total as they never ever looked in the race to even get 100 runs on the board. Had he not anchored the team innings, the match would have got over an hour before.

In the end, it was the home side that continued the winning run at their home ground, thanks to an amalgamated efforts from the Punjab boys.

Here is what skipper of both the sides said at the time of the toss –

Glenn Maxwell –

“Really good, we would like to have a few more games here. The bowlers set things up nicely for us. It’s been great for them to execute their skills on a small ground. Great start, boys are backing that up nicely. Amla is world-class. Couldn’t have gotten any better. Axar is a true professional and he delivered. He is a quality spinner and he continued to showcase his class and that’s what we asked from him.”

Shane Watson:

“Not at all (a good start). I am certainly to blame there; I got out in the first over. AB was brilliant tonight. The others needed to support him a bit more. Little bit more dew than I thought it would be. He (Stanlake) has got some serious skill; pace and bounce and is going to get better with more experience. AB was incredible as he always is and it would have been nice if we had supported him.”
