Kings XI Punjab’s Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has been ruled out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League with to a shoulder injury.
The 27-year, who has represented Australia in 3 One-Day Internationals, had suffered the injury when he landed awkwardly on his shoulder while taking a diving catch while training before the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday (May 5).
Stoinis, who has been in India since replacing injured allrounder Mitchell Marsh during the Test series, played five matches for Kings XI this season but failed to replicate the form that had made him one of his team’s most valuable players last season. He has managed to score just 17 runs in addition to taking a couple of wickets this season.
As of now, the extent of his shoulder injury still has to be assessed. He is likely to return to Australia soon to recover in time to participate in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy which will be held in England in June this year.
Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab will be keen to register their third win on the trot to keep alive their playoff hopes when they take on the struggling Gujarat Lions on Sunday (May 7). With 5 wins from 10 matches, the Kings XI need to win at least three of their final 4 matches to make it to the playoffs while Gujarat Lions are all but out of the race after managing just three wins in 11 matches.
