IPL 2017 – Stand In Skipper Karun Nair Delighted After Delhi Daredevils Get Back To Winning Ways
Just when you thought that the Delhi Daredevils were officially done with their IPL 2017 campaign, there has been some revived hopes after a stunning batting display against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Going into the game, it was essential for the Daredevils to win at all costs, as a loss could have well ended their campaign for this season.
With Zaheer Khan injured, the Daredevils were led by Karun Nair, who surely had a tough time dealing with Yuvraj Singh. Singh was flawless, as his unbeaten knock of 70 powered the Sunrisers to 185. The chase got off quite well with Nair going berserk and his rapid 39 setting the base.
The young Indian duo of Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant managed the middle overs quite well and kept the scoreboard ticking over. Ultimately, a fine finish from Corey Anderson ended the game, as the hosts got home with five balls to spare.
“It was a complete team performance,” said stand-in captain Karun Nair. “Really glad to have a win here. I think the bowlers gave it all. “We have always spoken about how we are a young team and should play like a young team. We just wanted to go there and play positively, play with intent. Bit disappointed but glad that finally got some runs under my belt and hoping to kick off from here,” he said.
Mohammad Shami was named the Man of the Match for his two wickets and the pacer seemed quite optimistic.
“This performance will boost my confidence. I was trying to back myself. It will be good for me and my team. If you get injured that disturbs you mentally. When on the field, I do not feel that much pressure. It’s a T20 format so you have to use the new ball and not give pace to the batsmen. We had different plans for both of them (Williamson and Warner), wanted to stick to my skills and leave it to luck,” said Shami.
