IPL 2017 SWOT Analysis: Mumbai Indians 1

Was nervous before the first ODI - Jos Buttler

WEAKNESS:

Jos Buttler is more than just a batsman for the Mumbai Indians, as he offers several pros to the fore. His flexibility to bat anywhere in the ranks is another major positive. However, a big weakness for the Mumbai Indians has been that Buttler has been struggling for form off-late.  During England’s limited overs tour of India, Buttler was simply mediocre as he failed to get going. The Mumbai side is composed in such a way that Buttler is their fulcrum in the middle order. Thereby, Buttler failing could have a disastrous impact for this champion side.

Even if Buttler finds his form, another worry surrounding him will be that he wouldn’t be available for the entire tournament. He is bound to leave for national duty in the third week of May, and Mumbai have no able replacement for him. Lendl Simmons is surely around, but again, he isn’t a regular middle order batsman like Buttler. If Mumbai somehow finds a solution to the Buttler woes, a lot of their problems will be solved.
