IPL 2017: “This Was Our Worst Batting Performance,” Says Virat Kohli

Royal Challengers Bangalore suffered their worst defeat in the history of IPL, as the side failed to chase a target of 132, failing to play even complete ten overs.

Virat Kohli led side had a poor start, as the downfall of the batting line up started from skipper Virat Kohli himself. He was the first one to go to the pavilion with no run alongside his name.

The first blow ruined RCB’ s innings as other batsmen followed their captain blindfolded. The big names like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers and Mandeep Singh all fell to the aggressive captaincy and brilliant bowling of KKR.

Half of the visiting team was back in the pavilion with a score of 40. The wickets continued to tumble and finally, RCB’s batting was packed on a score of 49, losing the game by a margin of 82 runs.

It was a poor display of batting from them, as they had few advantages on their side, starting from the toss and to the threat of rain. But KKR moulded all the odds in their favour to hand RCB probably their worst defeats in the history of IPL.

Here is what Virat Kohli said at the presentation ceremony after the defeat –

“Our worst batting performance, it really hurts. After the kind of half that we had, we thought we could capitalise and chase it down. Reckless batting. I can’t say anything at the moment. It was that bad. This is just not acceptable. The sightscreen is very small here, one guy got up as the bowler was loading up, that distracted me. Still, it wasn’t a big deal. That was just one down. Nine guys could have done the job. There’s nothing to review anything about the second half, it was that bad. We need to forget it and move forward. We’re a much better team. We got 200 plus in the last game. I’m sure everyone realises what they’ve done wrong. You have to come out, show intent and back yourselves. I’m sure we won’t bat like that again in the tournament. After the start they got, the spinners did well. Restricting to 130 was a good effort. We’re going back home for a couple of games. We’ve got back-to-back games, need to try and win those to get some momentum.”
