IPL 2017: Twitter Reacts As Delhi Daredevils Beat Gujarat Lions In A Thriller

1

Riding on Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant 96-run knock, Delhi Daredevils registered a stunning two-wicket victory over Gujarat Lions on Wednesday, May 10th.

Chasing 195, the Daredevils got off to a worst-possible start with their in-form batsmen Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant departing with just 15 runs on the board in the second over. A 57-run stand between Karun Nair and Shreyas Iyer then gave the chase a much-needed impetus but their innings was derailed once the former was sent back by James Faulkner. Marlon Samuels, Corey Anderson, Carlos Brathwaite- all failed to deliver as Delhi found themselves reeling at 121 for 6 in the 14th over.

However, Iyer was holding firm from one end, scoring at a good pace to keep the Daredevils in the hunt. The Mumbai batsman shared a 61-run partnership Pat Cummins before the Australian was dismissed for 24, with his side needing 14 runs from the last 10 balls and 9 from the final over. However, Iyer could not close the game as he was clean bowled by Basil Thampi on the second ball of the 20th over dismissed Iyer for 96 runs. With 7 needed off the last 4 balls, Amit Mishra then sealed the game by hitting two consecutive fours.

Earlier, a whirlwind knock from Aaron Finch had powered the Lions to a massive 195 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs. The Gujarat-based outfit did not enjoy a good start with their top three batsmen returning to the hut with only 56 runs on the board. But Finch and Dinesh Karthik stitched together a partnership of 92 runs to put their team in a good position. Karthik was dismissed after scoring 40 of 28 balls while Finch scored 69 off just 39 deliveries.

An avid sports lover, i always wanted to pursue a career in football. But just like the millions out there i did not put in the hard work needed to achieve my dream and now i have become a fan instead of the player. Anyway, writing for sports has kept me closer to this field. One more thing, yours sincerely is a die-hard Liverpool fan.
You will never walk alone.
