Riding on Rishabh Pant’s quickfire knock and a handy knock from Chris Morris, Delhi Daredevils recovered from a middle-order slump to post a competitive 168 for 7 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. The home team was reeling at 119 for 4 after the end of the 16th over before Rishabh Pant hit Umesh Yadav for 26 runs in an over to help his team get to a good total.
Sanju Samson and Sam Billings came all guns blazing when their skipper Zaheer Khan won the toss and decided to bat first. The duo added 53 runs in only 36 balls before Nathan Coulter-Nile drew the first blood when he had Billings caught behind for 21. Ten runs later, Samson departed too when he tried to steer an Umesh Yadav delivery towards the third-man but only managed it to the edge it to the ‘keeper. Shreyas Iyer and Karun Nair then steadied the ship with a 43-stand but the partnership came to an end in the worst possible manner. With boundaries not coming at regular intervals, the batsmen tried to take a non-existent double when Nair placed a Sunil Narine delivery in the mid-wicket region but a brilliant throw from Colin de Grandhomme caught the Mumbai-born batsman short of his crease when he was looking to complete the second run.
The visiting bowlers kept on bowling with discipline and the pressure finally got the better of Karun Nair who played a rash shot to throw away his wicket, leaving Delhi reeling at 110 for 4 at the end of 15 overs. Delhi desperately needed a good over to get the much-needed impetus and it came in the 17th over when Rishabh Pant hit Umesh Yadav for 3 sixes and a couple of fours. The southpaw departed soon after scoring 38 off just 16 balls. Chris Morris then scored 16 of 9 balls as Delhi finished their innings on a good note.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the innings:
Say it as often as you want. This Rishabh Pant is a special batsman. India must take great care in looking after him.

If Samson’s ton asked for a promotion in the batting order, Pant is demanding to get a bigger share of the 120 balls. Must bat higher. #IPL

Flourish and fearlessness of Delhi batsmen makes them a hugely attractive team to watch…

Looking at KKR's bowling now, I think their bowlers too had a disturbed sleep last night like Sonu Nigam ?#DDvKKR
