It is time and again said that to dismiss special players, something really special and out of the box is needed in the field. The Mumbai Indians produced a moment of absolute brilliance to prove that statement correct at Bangalore, as they locked horns with crowd favourites Royal Challengers Bangalore on a hot afternoon.
The focus was right on the comeback man and the heartbeat of a billion souls – Virat Kohli. The flamboyant batting machine responded in some style by registered a priceless half-century, showing no hint of rust what so ever.
The magical moment, however, was witnessed when Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma took a stunning catch to send back dangerman AB de Villiers back to the pavilion. On an extremely unusual surface, where the ball remained low and the pitch showing traces of uneven bounce, a player of De Villiers’ calibre too seemed to be struggling.
In the 17th over, with Krunal Pandya perfectly exploiting the pitch, de Villiers needed to do something innovative to propel the dipping run rate. The South African tried an inside out shot, but could only go over cover.
Rohit Sharma, stationed at the edge, flew to his right and plucked the catch out of thin air to send the deadly de Villiers back. Below, is the video of that one handed stunning catch.
