In a match where rarely anything went right for Virat Kohli, the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper enjoyed a rare light moment when his throw from long-on forced an injured Krunal Pandya to retire hurt for only two in a tense chase at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
Chasing 162, Mumbai Indians were in a spot of bother after being reduced to 98 for four at the end of the 13th over. Kieron Pollard was the fourth man to be dismissed before Krunal Pandya joined skipper Rohit Sharma in the middle.
The all-rounder, who had suffered a hip injury earlier during the match, was looking in pain when he came out to bat. The mishap had happened after he landed his right thigh and the knee on the ball, as it rolled under his dive while saving a run. He was seen grimacing in pain before being escorted out of the ground.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli could not contain his laughter after his throw from long-on aggravated Pandya’s injury. The incident occurred in the 14th over when Pandya pulled a Pawan Negi delivery towards Kohli. It was an easy run but not for Pandya who was finding it tough even to walk. In the meantime, Kohli realised that the batsman was hobbling halfway down the pitch and fired in a powerful throw which made Pandya sprint and leaps to make his ground.
And while he was able to enter the crease in time, he had to pay a big price for it, as the leap resulted in further pain. He was soon attended by the team physio before being escorted out of the ground.
Well, Kohli, who is rarely seen in a jovial mood during these tense situations, broke into laughter after seeing Pandya’s desperate attempt to the get inside the crease after his bullet throw.
Here is a clip of that incident:
