With his team already out of the contention for a playoff berth in this season of the Indian Premier League, Rishabh Pant would have desperately wanted them to lead to a consolation win in the ongoing match against Gujarat Lions. The southpaw came to the crease when the in-form Sanju Samson was dismissed by Pradeep Sangwan in the very second over.
With the target being a massive 195, Pant getting some good runs was very much important for the Daredevils and the 19-year old began in a strong fashion, as he hit the first ball he faced for a boundary through mid-wicket. But on the very next delivery, the left-handed batsman was run-out and he has only himself to blame for that.
After a full delivery from Sangwan hit Pant on pads, the Lions fielders went up in unison only to see the umpire giving his decision in the favour of the batsmen, The ball, meanwhile, rolled towards Suresh Raina who was standing in the slips. On the other hand, Pant was lethargically saying no to his partner for a run, without realising that he was standing outside the crease. A attentive Raina did not waste even a single second to throw the ball towards the stump as his direct hit caught Pant short of his crease.
Here is a clip of that comical run-out:
