IPL 2017 – We Were Pretty Average – Glenn Maxwell

Not many people can back that bowling unit which fails to defend a total as big as 190 in a T20 encounter.
The Kings XI Punjab bowlers were guilty of just doing that against an out of form Gujarat Lions outfit in Mohali, and in the due process, have just made life incredibly difficult for themselves. Now to qualify for the playoffs, the Punjabis need to win all their remaining games and expect a few results going their way as well.
The game though was highlighted by the magical knock from Hashim Amla, as the veteran South Africa got to his second century of this season in just 59 deliveries. Shaun Marsh chipped in with a valuable half century as well to continue his impressive run.
However, the bowling was simply poor, as the out of form Dwayne Smith blazed his way to a half-century to set the base. The visitors eventually sealed the chase in the last over. Post the loss, skipper Glenn Maxwell mentioned that his side was “pretty average”.
“It was a pretty average night to say the truth,” Maxwell said. “To have a guy get a hundred and not be able to celebrate with a win is pretty devastating. Certainly had enough runs on the board. It was just left to the bowlers and fielders to do the job and unfortunately, we let ourselves down with three dropped catches.”
Speaking about a crucial moment from the game, which highlighted the umpire’s error, he said,
“It was a crucial moment in the game, unfortunately, the umpire forgot to tell the batsman to move to the other side and that is what happened.”
