IPL 2017 : Words Full Of Appreciation For Chris Gayle And Yuzvendra Chahal From Coach Daniel Vettori
Royal Challengers Bangalore’s campaign in IPL 2017 is not all about good things. Starting with injuries of their star players like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Samuel Badree made them suffer in their initial games. Even under Virat in their last two games, they lost the games from a winning position. Against Gujarat Lions, RCB got their second win of IPL 2017.
Chris Gayle’s quickfire 77 runs and Yuzvendra Chahal’s three wickets earn them praise from their coach Daniel Vettori. Daniel Vettori feels players like Chris Gayle do not need any guidance for their game. this is one thing good about an international player. They took a lot of pride in their game, irrespective of the franchise they represent. He said,
“Good thing about international player is that they probably talk to themselves more than any captain or coach talking to them about their performances. They take pride in their performance they really want to contribute to the team and Chris is really a prideful man, he wants to do well for RCB.”
Former Kiwi skipper also commented on the injuries:
“Chris [Gayle] is at his strongest and most powerful on these good wickets and can take any bowling attack down. We had to go through the ringer – Sam Badree was injured today, Tymal is [Mills] injured, obviously, AB [de Villiers] is injured as well. So to have the likes of Chris, Travis [Head], Adam [Milne] and Shane [Watson] to call on in these situations makes a huge difference. When we went to the auction process, we wanted to increase our bench strength and fortunately today it’s come through for us.”
Coach Vettori applauded Yuzvendra Chahal as well for his performance against Gujarat. he picked up the most important wicket of Brendon McCullum, McCullum could have changed the winner of them if he would have stayed one or two over more. His figure after the match was four over for 31 runs and picked up three wickets.
“I have been lucky enough to have worked with Chahal for the past four years and also played against him when he was in Mumbai. The way he bowled in the Champions League final was the reason why RCB wanted him in their squad. he is competitive coupled with a lot of skills.”
“If you get success in Chinnaswamy like stadium it means you have some special skills”
Royal Challengers Bangalore so far has won only two games in their six games they have played.
