The Delhi Daredevils skipper, Zaheer Khan, might miss the rest of the ongoing edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a hamstring injury. Zaheer pulled off his right hamstring during the game against Kolkata Knight Riders and left the field only after bowling seven balls in the game.
He went on to miss the next game against Kings XI Punjab and was then ruled out of the contest against Sunrisers Hyderabad as well. The franchise issued a statement regarding Zaheer’s injury which read as,
“Zaheer Khan will not be available for tomorrow’s game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He suffered a hamstring strain during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. He will be monitored as we go along. Karun Nair will continue to be the stand-in captain for tomorrow’s game.”
A day after this, the news has come that Zaheer Khan might go on to miss the rest of the tournament as well, keeping in mind the history of injuries that he has suffered till now.
This means that Karun Nair, the stand-in skipper of the side, will continue to lead the team in the absence of his senior mate. The team management had earlier confirmed that Nair will be leading the team in absence of Zaheer Khan.
Currently, Delhi Daredevils is placed at the last position on the points table with just two wins in eight games. The Delhi-based franchise will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 2 in a quest to keep their hopes for the playoffs alive.
