IPL 2017: Delhi Daredevils Zaheer Khan Unavailable For Sunrisers Hyderabad Contest 1

The Delhi Daredevils skipper, Zaheer Khan, who suffered a hamstring injury during the contest against Kolkata Knight Riders has been ruled out of the contest against Sunrisers Hyderabad as well.

The left arm pacer went off the field during the contest against KKR only after bowling seven balls. There was some issue with his right hamstring which ruled out the skipper from the next game against Kings XI Punjab.

Karun Nair led the team in Zaheer’s absence as coach Rahul Dravid revealed that Nair was already announced the backup skipper for Zaheer. However, Nair, who made his captaincy debut for Karnataka in first-class cricket last season against Delhi, did not have a good outing as Daredevils batting line-up was bundled out on a mere total of 67 and lost the game by a margin of 10 wickets.

“Zaheer Khan will not be available for tomorrow’s game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He suffered a hamstring strain during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. He will be monitored as we go along. Karun Nair will continue to be the stand in captain for tomorrow’s game,” a statement from Delhi Daredevils read.

Nair continuing the captaincy duties for the side is very surprising as he is himself struggling for a place in the team but Delhi side have very few options and to keep the combination of the team right, Nair will continue to lead Delhi Daredevils.

Delhi Daredevils take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi on May 2. This will be just their third home game.

The country’s capital based franchise is currently placed at last position in the points table with just two wins and six losses in eight games.
