IPL 2018: AB de Villiers Excited With New Squad, Eyes IPL Trophy
Royal Challengers Bangalore will look to go all the way this IPL season once again.
However, they had failed to cross the final hurdle three times over the past decade. Despite that, South African batsman AB de Villiers remains highly optimistic going into the new season.
The franchise has one of the biggest fan bases in the league and were a huge success off the field. The likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers had helped the franchise over the past few years alongside now departed Chris Gayle.
But even then they lost three finals in IPL. The title always eluded them on the big match day. But AB de Villiers is excited with the balance they have in their team going into IPL 2018.
Royal Challengers Bangalore were more pragmatic in their auction approach this season than before. They ensured to get enough top-class bowlers to their side, which always looked their weakest link.
“This may be the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League, and my eighth campaign with RCB, but the general level of anticipation already seems greater than ever. Each year, the IPL feels bigger and brighter… it is a global sporting phenomenon,” wrote the 34-year-old in Times of India.
“The RCB class of 2018 is exciting, a balance of youth and experience, fresh and resolved to delight our supporters around the country, to realize our potential on the field and, hopefully, to take the trophy.”
Eden Gardens Set for RCB Cracker
The last time Royal Challengers Bangalore visited Eden Gardens, they were annihilated by Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowlers. RCB were bundled out for a mere 49 runs chasing a paltry 132 runs.
The teams are brand new going into the new season. No bowler in that rout were present in KKR at the moment. But it will still be a huge test for Royal Challengers in their first game.
“It’s a tough start. Nobody in our organisation needs reminding we were bowled out for 49 at Eden Gardens last year, but we’re looking forward, not back… looking to attack with both bat and ball, to play with energy, flair, and courage,” he wrote.
