Indian Premier League (IPL) is coming back to the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai after a wait of two-long years. The Chennai Crowd will be welcoming back to their heroes in grand style.
But Wankhede has never ever seen such a large contingent of Chennai Super Kings’ fans at the iconic venue. One can only expect a carnival-like atmosphere at Chennai.
However, they face their other favourite son, Dinesh Karthik leading the Kolkata Knight Riders side, opposing Dhoni in theatrical fashion.
Here’s the predicted lineup of Chennai Super Kings.
Murali Vijay would come in place of injured Kedar Jadhav as a replacement. This would mean Ambati Rayudu has to be pushed down the order, as Vijay can leave a significant impact as an opener.
After getting a start, experienced campaigner Shane Watson gave away his wicket. Clearly, there is no sign of rust in the retired superstar.
In the curtain raiser of IPL 11, Watson bowled brilliantly with two wickets and a neat economy for the Super Kings.
Much was expected out of ‘Chinna Thala’ of the Chennai Super Kings. However, Suresh Raina gave it away by playing a shot too early.
Moreover, Raina would look to contribute against KKR in front of his beloved Chennai crowd.
Ambati Rayudu at number four is a more reasonable place for him to bat. The Hyderabad-based batsman sparkled a bit before his innings was curtailed short.
However, He was bamboozled by rising leg-spinner Mayank Markande.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be more of a celebrity in the match, in front of the jampacked Chennai crowd.
Well, it would be a spectacle to see how the crowd treats him when he takes the field for them after two-year hiatus.
Ravindra Jadeja, one of the special three retained by the Super Kings, was underused with the ball.
The star all-rounder couldn’t quite impress with the bat. One could expect a better show from Jadeja in the second outing.
Wankhede saw one of the best innings from Dwayne Bravo. He was also adjudged as Man of the match for his all-round brilliance.
Bravo is also expected to receive a grand welcome back home.
Deepak Chahar was simply sensational with the new ball and ended up with wonderful figures, going at only four-and-a-half.
Similarly, the gamble of sending him up the order failed almost immediately.
Harbhajan Singh was decent with the ball but failed to flatter with the bat. Interestingly, in the last match, none of the Indian contingent amongst the bowlers completed their full quota of overs.
Mark Wood was entrusted with a full quota of four overs but was the most expensive of all. Wood may be replaced by speedster Lungi Ngidi but Dhoni is highly unlikely to make a change owing to the winning combination and that too so early in the tournament.
Imran Tahir appeared ecstatic to be a part of Chennai Super Kings even though he was part of the Dhoni’s team at Rising Pune Supergiant.
Moreover, the prominent leg-spinner Tahir would also look to entertain the crowd with his trademark celebration.
