ToggleChris Lynn, the Kolkata Knight Riders batsman, has said that he is on the road to recovery and is hopeful of playing the first game of IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders,
“It’s tracking really nicely. It’s a short turnaround with the timeframe that we’ve got but it’s all going well. The docs and the physios are happy so that’s all I can do. Fingers crossed I can keep going in the right direction and try to make myself available for the first game of the IPL,” he told Cricket.com.au.
Lynn is currently facing a race against time to be fit for IPL.
Kolkata Knight Riders purchased him for a huge sum of Rs 9.60 Crore, and the player would miss out on the amount if he misses the league.
The franchise owners are also keeping a close eye on his fitness and hope for Lynn to be fit for the first game of IPL.
Lynn suffered a shoulder injury during the final of the Trans-Tasman Trophy against New Zealand.
He landed on his shoulder awkwardly and was straightaway taken off the field.
He did not bat in the game, and the results of scans showed that he had dislocated his shoulder.
Though it was also confirmed that he would not require any surgery, which was a big relief for him.
KKR have big hopes from him, which was reflective of the fact that the franchise went behind him on the auction day.
He was also one of the contenders for the post of captain as well, but an injury meant that he was out of the list.
It also looks like KKR would have retained him ahead of Andre Russell or Sunil Narine, but the owners were confident that they would get him back at a low price – keeping his injury list in mind.
In the end, though, all the franchises went behind him, and KKR had to pay Rs 9.60 Crore to him.
It was the only way to get him back as they were not allowed to use their Right to Match Card (RTM) him.
Last year as well, KKR put their hopes on Lynn when they did not release him even when he spent one month on the bench
The team management waited for Lynn to get fit and did not name his replacement.
Surely, the pressure is on Lynn to be fit before the start of IPL and play a major part of the league without any injury.
Meanwhile, KKR have few worries in the form of Mitchell Starc, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine.
While there are few issues over the fitness of Starc and Russell, Narine was recently reported for suspect action.
Kolkata Knight Riders face Royal Challengers Bangalore in their first game on April 8.
