Chennai Super Kings (CSK) may not name a replacement for New Zealand-based all-rounder Mitchell Santner.

As per the Head Coach Stephen Fleming, CSK looked at Santner for the three-year term and not just one year, which means that he is in the scheme of things for next year as well,

“Santner is a talented player. He is rated highly by the management. M.S and Ravindra Jadeja were injured at the time when we picked Santner, so we were a bit wary and we were looking at versatile players. Before his injury, he was one of the in-form players. We were looking at three years and not one year, so top quality players were important. We are not rushing a replacement,” said Stephen Fleming.

Santner was ruled out of for a period of six to nine months due to a knee injury.

This saw him being ruled out of two-match Test series against England and IPL as well.

Mitchell Santner was purchased by Chennai Super Kings at his base price of INR 50 Lakh.

One of the major reasons for CSK not willing to introduce Santner’s replacement is the presence of quality all-rounder.

Ravindra Jadeja is likely to play all games for the team.

There will be a race between Harbhajan Singh and Karn Sharma for a place in playing XI.

Both the players will just not give their full quota of four overs, but can also bat well on occasions.

Suresh Raina, who will bat at number three, can also CSK with his off-spin.

Dwayne Bravo is another all-rounder in the team.

CSK have a star-studded lineup and looking at the fact that they have backups present, they may not name Santner’s replacement.

Meanwhile, the reports have suggested that Faf du Plessis may be ruled out of IPL 2018.

He is suffering from a finger injury, which can jeopardize his participation in IPL. Though, nothing has been confirmed yet.

If Plessis is declared fit, he will join the team by Thursday (April 5).

Chennai Super Kings kick off their IPL campaign against Mumbai Indians on April 7 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
