IPL 2018: Delhi Daredevils vs Rajasthan Royals – Match Report

In a crackerjack of a contest and all in all, it was a wicketkeepers’ night at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi. Firstly, it was pugnacious Rishabh Pant, who wrecked havoc while Jos Buttler showed his onslaught in the high-scoring chase against hosts Delhi Daredevils.

However, the win eventually ensured Daredevils stay in the playoffs race. Moroever, Rajasthan Royals joins Mumbai Indians and subsequently Delhi to be in the red zone.

Delhi Innings – Rishabh’s incredible form continued –

Earlier, in the day, it was Ajinkya Rahane, who called it right at the toss. He asked the home side to start the innings at their den.

Before making it to the field, Rain gods made an intervention asking the umpires to reduce two overs in each innings after a prolonged delay.

However, justifying the toss, Royals sent back Colin Munro on a no score when Dhawal Kulkarni bowled a superb inswinger.

Secondly, it is worth mention to remind the effort put in by Buttler for the catch behind the stumps.

But, the laughs were overshadowed very quickly as Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw smacked Royals bowlers all over the park.

Shaw, in particular, was at his devastating best who smashed the ball out of the park often than not. However, he was unfortunate to miss out his fifty. Shreyas too entertained the crowd by his gutsy fifty.

Off all, it was Pant who was the show stealer. The southpaw carried his rich vein of form by taking the attack to the opposition. He looked in a terrific touch when he was eyeing to smack everything out of the park. He finished his innings for 69 runs off just 29 balls.

Rishabh’s blitzkrieg ensured Rajasthan post a massive total of 196 runs for six on the board in 17.1 overs, before rain made its way for the second time. After a brief rain delay, the chase was reduced to 151 runs off 12 overs.

Rajasthan’s Chase: Jos Buttler showed his mettle but Boult’s nerve wins it

In reply, Jos Buttler started off in a spectacular way by smacking 67 off just 26 deliveries. He looked completely in a different mood upfront but unfortunately, couldn’t see his team cross the victory line.

At one stage, he was looked like seal the victory single-handedly for the team.

Though Buttler is smacking the ball at a great strike rate, it was D’Arcy Short, who found it very tough to get going. He never looked in chasing the total as he hardly smacked the ball out of the 30-yard circle.

However, he saved his best by smacking three sixes in a row in Maxwell’s over but walked back to the hut in the next ball itself.

The incredible hitting made equation read 30 required off 12 balls. Krishnappa Gowtham and Rahul Tripathi managed to score 15 runs in the Plunkett’s over thus leaving 15 runs for the final over.

Iyer, without any second thought, handed the ball to Trent Boult, who delivered it under the pressure. He was successful in keeping the batsmen quiet in first three balls thus making life hard.

When it required 10 runs off two balls, Gowtham smacked it high in the air where Shreyas was guarding the fence.

The pressure got under the skins of Delhi captain thus making a mess of it. The ball sneaked into boundary as well. When visitors required six runs off the final ball, Boult bowled a decent wide-line ball which caught the toe-end of Gowtham booming willow.

However, it was a high scoring thriller at Feroz Shah Kotla where Daredevils came out of flying colours.

Concluding, the win ensured Delhi Daredevils to be alive in the tourney while Rajasthan is in troubled waters alongside Mumbai Indians and Delhi in nutshell.
