Rajinikanth, who had recently announced his new political party, had also extended his support to the protests while raising a pertinent question over ongoing IPL. His response came as Tamil cinema industry is the latest to extend their support to the formation of Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

The Supreme Court had ordered the central government to form CMB and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) in six weeks time back in February.

However, the centre had not formed the board yet. This is making the situation much worse in Chennai as all political parties are rallying together on the issue.

“Tamil Nadu is demanding in one voice — set up the Cauvery Management Board. I urge the Prime Minister to take necessary steps,” the actor said.

Speaking on the Indian Premier League games that are scheduled to happen in Chennai, Rajinikanth said:

“It would be an embarrassment if we celebrate IPL while common people are thirsty. I implore the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) players to at least sport black bands over the issue.”

The Cauvery board formation is going to be a massive problem for Chennai Super Kings management.

However, if the state comes together on the issue, there could be serious pressure on IPL governing council to quickly approve a new solution.

Chennai To Host Games from April 10:

The return of Chennai Super Kings to IPL, had attracted plenty of interest in the city. Their franchise has been barred for the previous two editions. The team had won a thriller by a solitary wicket against Mumbai Indians in the opening match at Wankhede Stadium.

In addition, Chennai will be hosting all the home games for Super Kings this season. They will first host Kolkata Knight Riders on April 10. But considering the current situation in Chennai, the onlookers are still unsure over the matches happening in the cricket-crazy city.

In 2016, when Maharastra was facing a huge water crisis, IPL had decided to shift the games of both Rising Pune Supergiant(s) and Indians to Visakhapatnam. If a similar situation arises, they might be forced to look at an alternative venue.
