IPL 2018: I am Lucky to be Picked up by CSK – Imran Tahir

Chennai Super Kings recruit Imran Tahir admits the passion of the fans make him realise how lucky he is to be here.
Meanwhile, the leg-spinner changed his base from Pune to Chennai in this year’s auction.
Tahir talked extensively to the franchise’s website on the sidelines of team practice at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Meanwhile, thousands of CSK supporters turned up to watch their favourite team train on Friday.
“Every day has made me realise how lucky I am to be picked up by CSK. It is vastly different from any franchise that I have played for. I am thankful for the way they (fans) are supporting us, and I can’t wait to play our first home game,” Tahir said.
Previously, the cricketers turned up for practice in an open top bus that saw thousands of fans screaming in joy. The fans are making their excitement felt turning up in huge numbers during the net sessions.
Meanwhile, CSK will come back to the cash-rich league after serving a two-year ban.
The Lions are one of the most successful teams in the opening decade winning the trophy and finishing second four times. They also qualified in the playoff in all the eight editions they played.
“It is not an easy job, to be honest, but wrist spinners have done extremely well in IPL and in T20 leagues around the world,” continued Tahir. “Leg-spin as an art is unique, but it’s a big challenge for a leg-spinner in that he can go for 40-50 runs on any day and people think why did they pick him? Cricket has changed, and it has become a lot harder for spinners in general. Modern day cricket requires leg-spinners to have a lot of variations to be successful,” he added.
The 39-year old admitted age is not the defining factor, while it is fitness and the hunger to succeed that matters.
“I have a lot of passion for the game and look to do well and deliver at every given opportunity. If you bring value to the team and people want to watch you, I don’t think age should be stopping you,” he added.
CSK will take on arch-rivals Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener at the Wankhede Stadium on April 7.
