The other three franchises to adopt the test are Kings XI Punjab, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals.

The purpose of the team opting for the fitness test is keeping the players and match up to the standards of international sides,

“The teams now want their players to match up to the standards adopted by international teams around the world. India now has made the yo-yo test mandatory, so it’s natural to see some of the IPL teams follow suit. It’s good to see where each player stands in terms of their fitness levels how much work the support staff needs to put in behind the scenes with them,” a member of IPL team told The Indian Express.

It is to be noted that RCB even conducted yo-yo test during the domestic seasons on its players who are a part of it. The much-talked-about yo-yo test is already one of the barometers to get selected in the Indian team.

The test was made mandatory during the India tour of Sri Lanka when Virat Kohli held discussions with Head Coach, Ravi Shastri.

A failure in clearing the test saw Yuvraj Singh getting dropped and Suresh Raina failing to make a comeback to the national team.

Washington Sundar would have made his debut in the series against Australia, but he couldn’t make it to the national team due to failure in clearing the test.

In fact, the players are made to undergo the test on a timely basis to keep a check on their fitness.

IPL teams have taken a leaf out of the India team book and this year’s IPL will see fitter players. The upcoming season of IPL kicks off on April 7th with Mumbai Indians taking on Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Before the start of the first game, an opening ceremony will take place at the same venue. Players of only two teams viz Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will take part in the ceremony.
