IPL 2018: Irfan Pathan names his playing XI for Chennai Super Kings
Overlooked Indian fast bowler Irfan Pathan, who also had cherished his stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has announced his playing XI for crowd favorite Chennai Super Kings.
The success of the domestic Twenty20 league IPL has set the pinnacle for the rest of the world which saw youngsters delivering as per their promise.
Returning to the IPL fold Mahendra Singh-led Dhoni side CSK will kick off their campaign in the opener on April 7 against the defending champions Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium.
Interestingly, the left-arm paceman in the tenth edition was the part of now-defunct Gujarat Lions.
Dhoni must serve as per the situation of the match:
Irfan reiterated senior campaigner Dhoni must bat up front. He stated he should further bat at the fourth or fifth spot according to the situation.
“I would like to see him play more overs like 8 or 10 overs at least. He can come in at 4, 5 or even at 6 depending on the situation,” Irfan said during his latest interview.
The impending IPL is bound to throw up the surprise during the two-month long extravaganza. Moreover, Rajasthan Royals team is also making the return following the two-year drought.
Of late, Irfan has worked as the expert for ESPN Cricinfo.
Irfan believes Murali Vijay alongside Faf du Plessis at the top will deliver for the yellow brigade. He suggested the left-handed batsman Suresh Raina will consolidate the innings at the number three position.
Also, Pathan picked Australian all-rounder Shane Watson in the middle-order to play the crucial role in the middle overs.
Experienced campaigner Watson is expected to bat at number four.
“There is Watson in the squad as well but I would prefer Faf to open as he is better as an opener than in the middle order,” Irfan maintained.
In the spin bowling department, Irfan believes the combination of Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja has a massive role to play.
With quality players in their ranks, Super Kings have plenty of choices to work on.
”There is obviously Suresh Raina at number 3. He’s been the best no. 3 in IPL in terms of the record as well. He’s been prolific run-scorer for CSK,” Irfan remarked.
The settled camp of CSK will also witness all-rounder Dwayne Bravo in XI and among four overseas, according to Irfan.
But known for his impressive bowling as well, Irfan prefers Kedar Jadhav at the seventh position.
Shedding light on the fast bowlers, Irfan asserted England-based Mark Wood would hold the responsibility with the new-ball alongside highly impressive Shardul Thakur.
