Brendon McCullum has expressed his delight over sharing the field with Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. The former New Zealand skipper played alongside the star duo for Royal Challengers Bangalore in their opening game against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday.
The memorable moment, however, turned sour for McCullum and his team. Kolkata Knight Riders won the game comprehensively by four wickets. Sent in to bat first, the Royal Challengers rode on notable contributions from McCullum, de Villiers and Mandeep Singh to post 176 for 7. McCullum gave his team a fine start by scoring 43 off 27 with the help of 6 fours and two sixes. De Villiers then hit five sixes en route to his 44-run knock. Towards the end, Mandeep scored 37 off 17 to guide his team to a good total.
However, the score turned out to be a bit less in the end. Kolkata Knight Riders lost Chris Lynn cheaply but Sunil Narine came out all guns blazing. The West Indies superstar showed no mercy and scored his fifty off just 17 balls. The Knight Riders then lost Robin Uthappa cheaply but did not let the visitors take command of the game.
Nitish Rana and Dinesh Karthik then took the score past the 100-run mark and shared a 50-plus partnership. The Knight Riders eventually reached the target with seven balls remaining.
It was a mixed day for McCullum and his tweet after the game said it all. The star batsman expressed his delight over playing alongside Kohli and de Villiers but made sure to point it out that the team lost.
“I know we didn’t win but it was amazing to play alongside @ABdeVilliers17 and @imVkohli today. Massive respect. Looking forward to this season that is for sure!,” he tweeted.
