The IPL 2018 season will be demanding for KL Rahul where he will have to perform the dual role.

Apart from batting, Rahul will also have the responsibility to keep wickets for Kings XI Punjab as well.

Since KXIP do not have any other wicketkeeper-batsman other than him and Akshdeep Nath, the responsibility to perform the role will fall on KL Rahul only.

The 25-year old is all set to take the dual responsibility, as he has said he is ready to take up the role,

“This won’t be the first time that I am taking on a dual responsibility. It will be hard on the body, as I don’t keep regularly through the year but that’s what you do seeing the demand of the team. You can take it up as a challenge and work on keeping. It’s a team sport, and you have to be ready to take up the role that the team wants. I am looking forward to be behind the stumps, sharing my feedback with captain, and try and score also for the team,” he said.

KL Rahul hasn’t kept wickets in a limited-overs international contest till now.

However, he took over the gloves from Wriddhiman Saha during the second Test against Sri Lanka in 2015 when the latter sat out in mid of the game. He later got ruled out of third Test and selectors called in Naman Ojha. Rahul had kept wickets in IPL on certain occasions in the past.

If he does well in the coming IPL season, this could see him pressing his case as a wicketkeeper-batsman in the Indian team as well.

The India Test opener will play at least 14 games as a wicketkeeper-batsman, which will enough for him to test himself in the dual role.

KL Rahul emerged out as a star in the IPL auction. He was snared by Kings XI Punjab for a sky-rocketing amount of Rs 11 Crore. Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians started off the bidding for him. Once his price reached six Crore, both the franchises backed out. From there, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab joined.

Both the franchises continued to bid for him, and once his price reached Rs 11 Crore, Sunrisers Hyderabad backed, which meant KL Rahul would play for KXIP. This will be the first time when he will play for this franchise.

Interestingly, he missed IPL 2017 due to a shoulder injury and will be making his comeback in the league after a break of one year.

Kings XI Punjab plays Delhi Daredevils in an away game on April 8.
