ToggleThe comeback team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) banked on Dwayne Bravo’s blistering knock to beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by one wicket.
Put to bat first; MI scored 165 runs in their quota of 20 overs. CSK reduced Mumbai to 20 for two within the first four overs.
Since then, Surya Kumar Yadav (43) paired with Ishan Kishan (40) to revive the Mumbai innings. The left-right combination pair scored some brilliant shots, as MI inched to the 100-run mark.
Meanwhile, it was some late blow from Krunal Pandya (41*), as they posted 165 runs on the board.
However, in return, it was a collapse of CSK middle-order that put Mumbai ahead in the game. Debutant Mayank Markande had an outstanding stint with the ball, as he returned with three for 23 well supported Hardik Pandya (3 for 24).
But the surprise was packed for the late overs, as Dwayne Bravo struck some massive six to take Mumbai closer to the target. The Windies all-rounder played a magical hand of 68 runs off just 30 balls but got out in the penultimate over.
The injured Kedar Jadhav (24*) then came back to struck a six and four in the fourth and fifth ball of the last over to win the match for CSK.
Here is the player rating of Chennai Super Kings:
Shane Watson: (6.5/10)
The veteran all-rounder from Australia had a fair start to his IPL season. He took two crucial wickets and scored 16 runs to give CSK a quick start. However, he failed to convert the start, as he failed to clear the field.
Ambati Rayudu: (6/10)
Ambati Rayadu will curse on himself, as he failed to convert the start. He got off to a flier scoring 22 runs off 19 deliveries including four boundaries. However, he missed a googly from debutant Mayank Markande to get himself LBW.
Suresh Raina: (2/10)
Raina will look to forget this outing, as he failed to make a mark on his comeback to CSK. The southpaw managed to score only four runs from six balls before getting out. He got out trying to pull one off Hardik Pandya, as the ball hurried on to him.
Kedar Jadhav: (7.5/10)
Although Jadhav got off to slow start, he suffered a huge blow when he had to leave the field due to a hamstring injury. However, he came back strongly to struck one six and four in the last over to win the game for CSK.
MS Dhoni (c & wk): (2/10)
Dhoni will look to forget his comeback game for the yellow brigade. He failed to take his team to victory, as he was caught right in front by the young Markande. Dhoni only managed to score five runs off five deliveries.
Dwayne Bravo: (9.5/10)
Bravo had an outstanding game with both bat and ball. He scored a blistering knock of 68 runs after returning with 25 runs from his four overs.

Ravindra Jadeja: (3.5/10)
The all-rounder also didn’t have a great time, as he reunited with Chennai. Dhoni gave Jadeja only one over, as he went for nine runs.
However, CSK wanted him to shine with the bat, but he failed to live up to the expectations. He scored 12 runs off 13 deliveries before getting out.
Harbhajan Singh: (3/10)
The off-spinner failed to shine against his previous franchise. He gave away 14 runs in the two overs he bowled, however, was unable to pick wickets.
With the bat, CSK needed a superlative effort, but he failed to impress. He scored eight runs off five deliveries before getting out.
Deepak Chahar: (7.5/10)

Imran Tahir: (1.5/10)
The leg-spinner was taken for 18 runs in his first over. As a result, Dhoni didn’t give him his full quota. Ishan Kishan hammered Tahir down the wicket before getting out to him.
Mark Wood: (2/10)
The fast-bowler from England had a poor start to his IPL career. The towering Wood went for 49 runs in his quota of four overs. However, he will look to come back strong in his next game.
